Tondos

The Tondos, like the kites, are part of a larger ongoing series begun in 2015, Triangles/Tondos/Triptychs. These small round paintings, each with a diameter of 8 inches, when shown in a gallery, are usually installed as triptychs, but can also be shown with the kites as more of a freeform installation.

In art history class, when studying an Italian Renaissance painting that was round, it was referred to as a tondo. I adopted the word to use in the title of the series because of the alliteration. (Wikipedia: A tondo is a Renaissance term for a circular work of art, either a painting or a sculpture. The word derives from the Italian rotondo, “round”).
